FAQ

    FAQ

What is the difference between IMS20-B and IMS20-D?
The IMS20-B has no built-in display — it transmits measurement data via electrical output only (RS-485, 4–20 mA, or 0–10 V). The IMS20-D adds a 2.7" e-ink display that shows current humidity and temperature readings directly on the device. Both variants use identical sensors and have the same measurement accuracy.
Which output signal should I choose?
Choose RS-485 (Modbus RTU) if you need to connect multiple devices in a network or integrate with a SCADA or PLC system. Choose 4–20 mA if your controller uses current-loop inputs and you need noise-resistant signal transmission over long cable runs. Choose 0–10 V if your controller accepts voltage inputs and the cable run is short.
Can I configure the device without an RS-485 master?
Yes. Connect the device to a PC via the USB Type-C service port (standard USB-A to USB-C cable) and use akYtec ToolPro software to configure network address, baud rate, measurement filters, alarm thresholds, and LED behaviour.
How many IMS20-485 devices can I connect to one RS-485 bus?
The RS-485 interface supports bus lengths up to 1200 m. Place 120 Ω termination resistors at both ends of the bus. The maximum number of devices per segment depends on the transceiver unit load — with standard 1 UL transceivers, up to 32 devices per segment.
What Modbus registers contain the humidity and temperature values?
Humidity value (%RH): holding register 4097 (hex: 0x1001), 2 registers, FLOAT32. Temperature value (°C): holding register 4099 (hex: 0x1003), 2 registers, FLOAT32. Device status: register 4096 (hex: 0x1000). The default network address is 16 and the default baud rate is 9600 baud. The full register map is available in the User Guide.
Is the device suitable for outdoor installation?
No. The IMS20-B is rated IP20 and is designed for indoor use only, in closed, explosion-safe premises free of direct moisture and corrosive vapors. It must not be used outdoors.
What is the measuring principle for humidity?
The sensor uses a capacitive polymer sorbent element. Its dielectric permittivity changes with the amount of absorbed moisture, which is converted into a calibrated relative humidity reading. Temperature is measured by a resistive sensing element whose resistance varies with ambient temperature.
